Valentino's Ruffled Past

Valentino quote
Valentino Garavani spent over 60 years proving that, season after season, there's nothing more beautiful than the female form. His designs have always treaded the line between delicate femininity + the strong, empowered woman he envisioned wearing them. His couture garments were often created by draping the fabric directly on the model.

Valentino is well known for recurring themes in his work -- from his signature red to, what brought about this post, his use of ruffles. He's been using ruffles to accentuate the flowing femininity of his garments, from dresses to pants, almost his entire career.

In F/W of 1993, Valentino's runway collection + magazine ads were covered in ruffles:

Watching all those ruffles moving in this runway video from that collection is mesmerizing.
